Huron River Kayak Park
The Huron River Kayak Park center is a proposal nestled within Bandemer Park in Ann Arbor, MI. The focus of this project was creating interwoven moments of serenity and movement. Analogous to the constant motion of the river beside the peaceful forest, the floating dock and footpaths encourage constant circulation while the sunken central pavilion grounds the site and the surrounding piloti mimic the verticality and stillness of the trees. Throughout the park, the circulatory paths lead to places of congregation and recreation. The widening and thinning of the floating dock creates natural spaces of gathering on the water and in the trees, while the sunken central courtyard and the sculpting of the beach area create spaces in which people can feel more grounded to the Earth.
